To ensure better stability of expanded polystyrene insulation panels on the house wall, they are fastened with an additional polypropylene (PP) anchor. However, the fact that two different materials are used results in thermal bridges due to different thermal conductivities (TC), which can be seen visually as the formation of mold and algae, but also cause energy losses. The motivation for this work was to adjust the WLF of the two materials by using a filler, but not to negatively influence the mechanical strength of the anchor.

Is Bio the New Standard?

Benvic will use the upcoming Fakuma 2023 to present its polypropylene DotCore.

Benvic will use the upcoming Fakuma 2023 to demonstrate how its polypropylene (PP)-based compounding technology can work in terms of tailor-made formulations for customer needs and applications.

Luca Battistoni leads the work at Benvic’s site in Ferrara, Italy. A legacy piece of Celanese’s acquired PP technology provided Benvic’s springboard into this market. The company’s lead in chemistry and material formulation then paved the way for Benvic’s new PP compound, called DotCore.

“Benvic is not the biggest player in this field – nor is it the smallest,” says Luca. “What we are, however, is the most precise and meticulous – an ideal partner in creating new materials for new applications.”

With a foot in both vinyl and polyolfin compounds, Benvic is now in a position to help manufacturers and innovators transition – or even exit – from one material source to another: “Both materials have strong advantages,” Luca notes. “Vinyl has excellent recyclability and 2nd life performance, especially in the building and construction sector. Polypropylene is still on the rise as a successful and cost-effective commodity polymer. And the recyclability potential of polypropylene, which is still in its infancy, is enormous worldwide”.

At the Fakuma trade show in southern Germany from October 17 to 21, Benvic will be emphasizing these points and giving full expression to its DotCore material technology.
